2. Confirm with the potential nominee his/her interest in being nominated.

Board of Trustees Term of Office:


The term of office for all trustees shall be for three years, with one-third of the terms expiring each year. Trustees will be limited to three consecutive 3 year terms, but may be re-elected to the Board after an absence of one year.


Board of Trustees Qualifications:


A member of the Board of Trustees of this College shall be:

  • A born-again believer
  • Held in high repute (highly respected) by his/her local church and be highly regarded by others in the brotherhood (community of faith), however far his/her sphere of influence may range
  • Levelheaded, able and willing to articulate his/her convictions in a spirit of cooperation
  • Willing to work with others to achieve a common goal
  • Discreet, as matters discussed by trustees are often not matters of public discussion
  • Willing to devote time, energy, and resources to the betterment and promotion of Heritage Bible College
  • Have no family or business connection that would present a conflict of interest in carrying out his or her responsibilities as a trustee
  • Offer some area of expertise such as:
  • Education
  • Finances (e.g.; income, disbursements, investment)
  • Physical plant
  • Doctrine
  • Needs of minorities
  • Law

Board of Trustees Meetings:


The full BoT will meet twice a year (April/October), with subcommittees meeting as necessary between Board meetings.


Board of Trustees Duties:


It shall be the duty of the Trustees to:

  1. Assume and discharge primary responsibility for institutional policy, presidential relations, and financial resources to assure the quality and integrity of operations.
  2. Select, elect, and annually evaluate the President of Heritage Bible College, Inc.
  3. Select and elect the Vice-President of Heritage Bible College, Inc.
  4. Delegate to the President of the College such duties, powers, and responsibilities as may be necessary for the effective operation of the College.
  5. Establish or approve such policies and procedures as the Trustees deem necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the College.
  6. Approve all substantive plans for improvement and development of the College and its physical facilities that are above and beyond routine maintenance and repairs. The Board must maintain a written long-range plan for the College that is regularly reviewed and updated.
  7. Obtain and provide all possible support, financial, and otherwise for the College, including participation in hosting the Annual Vision Dinner.
  8. Serve as the legal custodian of the physical property and all other assets of the College and take such action as may from time to time be necessary for the protection and preservation of such property and assets.
  9. Give to the president and the other officers of the College full support in carrying out the programs approved by the Trustees and secure and provide for the College the resources, financial and otherwise, necessary to carry out such programs.
  10. Understand, support, and promote the purposes of the College. The Board must regularly review and approve the institutional purpose, objectives, and philosophy of the College.
  11. Approve the budget and the use of all endowment funds and assets.
  12. Exercise the corporate powers prescribed by law.
  13. On the recommendation of the President, the Board of Trustees will ratify the appointment of such faculty members, administrative personnel, and other employees as to the Board appear feasible and proper. The Board of Trustees approves the establishment and any subsequent revisions of standardized salary and fringe benefit packages to allow for equitable decisions based on employee or faculty job responsibilities, training, and experience.
  14. Elect from their own number an executive committee and other such committees as the Trustees deem necessary or proper, which committees shall enjoy and exercise such powers as the Trustees may confer and grant.
  15. Make, adopt, and amend bylaws which govern Board operations and maintain a Board manual that contains policies and procedures related to the Board of Trustees.
  16. Annually evaluate the effectiveness of its functions through established assessment procedures.
  17. Provide an orientation session for new Board members to inform them of their role and duties as a Board member.
